It is an honour for me to be a Captain of Dromoland Golf and Country Club. Dromoland Castle and estate date back through the centuries as the ancestral home of the O’Brien clan. It is now 51 years in existence as a hotel and golf course. Over those years, the golf course has undergone many phases of development. The course that exists today is a very highly regarded parkland course. As members we are very proud of our golf course and consider it to be a challenging and rewarding experience to play here.
Apart from the golf, I take great pleasure from the beautiful environmental setting of the course. While golfing one can admire the wonderful natural variety of trees and plants as well as observe several species of animal and bird life that are native to Dromoland Estate. The lake, the river and the water features are a feast for the senses.
There is a series of interesting and special holes on the course. The setting of the 7th provides a spectacular view of the castle and the lake; while the par 5 18th is a tremendous finishing hole with a 200 year-old evergreen tree guarding the entrance to the green. That is just to mention two holes.
If you would like to come and join as a full member, or as a guest, I know you would enjoy playing our golf course, and enjoy the friendly Dromoland hospitality.
It is a great honour for me to be Lady Captain of Dromoland Golf & Country Club 2015. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our members, old and new.
This year, alongside Dolores Fox, my vice-captain, we aim to encourage participation in all our competitions and activities. We will strive to promote good sportsmanship and comradery in all aspects of the game, and we will do our best to ensure that everyone is having a good time!
Dromoland is a beautiful yet challenging course and I am privileged to be a member of a club with such scenic surroundings and such a welcoming atmosphere.
Best wishes for the year ahead and I hope to see you out on the course!
Lady Captain 2015.
